Our immune systems are made up of organs, cells, and chemicals that work together to fight infection. The main parts of the immune system are white blood cells, antibodies, the complement system, the lymphatic system, the spleen, the thymus, and the bone marrow. These are the parts that actively fight infection.

White Blood Cells

WBC’s are made in our bone marrow and move throughout our bodies, looking for things such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, to attack and destroy.

Antibodies

The antibodies then mark these antigens for destruction. There are many cells, proteins, and chemicals involved in this attack.”

Complement System

This system contains proteins that complement the work done by antibodies.

Lymphatic System

This system flows throughout our body and is made up of lymph nodes, lymph vessels, and white blood cells.

Spleen

The spleen “is a blood-filtering organ that removes microbes and destroys old or damaged red blood cells. It also makes disease-fighting components of the immune system.”

Bone Marrow

Bone marrow is found inside of our bones and produces red blood cells. RBC’s carry oxygen throughout the body.

Thymus

The thymus “filters and monitors your blood content. It produces the white blood cells called T-lymphocytes.”

Causes of Low Immunity

One cause of low immunity could be a lack of protein that is consumed through your diet. A study confirmed this statement by documenting that “protein-calorie malnutrition impairs host immunity with particular detrimental effects on the T-cell system, resulting in increased opportunistic infection and increased morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients.”

Another cause of low immunity is due to individuals who are born with low immunity; this is called primary immune deficiency. Acquiring a disease can also lead to low immunity; this is called acquired immune deficiency.

An allergic reaction can occur when our immune system is too active. Furthermore, when the body starts attacking its own cells, then it is known as Autoimmune Disease. It can also be weakened by smoking, alcohol, and poor nutrition.

Signs Of A Weak Immune System

There are signs that you may have a low immunity:

Stress – According to a report, chronic stress can weaken your immune system.
Cold – Having a constant cold may suggest your immune system is weak.
Digestion – If you have frequent diarrhea, gas, or constipation, this can mean you have a compromised immune system.
Wounds – Are your cuts and scrapes taking longer to heal? This might mean you have unhealthy immune cells.
